US President Donald Trump has named two Indian-Americans to prominent positions in national security and personnel management. NRI Ricky Gill has been appointed as Senior Director for South and Central Asian Affairs at the National Security Council (NSC), while NRI Saurabh Sharma will serve in the Presidential Personnel Office.
Gill, who brings extensive experience in national security, previously served as the NSC Director for Russia and European Energy Security during Trump’s first term. He also held a senior advisory role in the State Department’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations. After leaving the NSC, Gill became the Principal and General Counsel at Gill Capital Group and provided strategic advice on European and Asian energy matters for TC Energy, the company behind the Keystone XL Pipeline.
Born in Lodi, New Jersey, to parents Jasbir and Param Gill, Ricky Gill holds a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and a law degree from the University of California, Berkeley. Confirming his appointment, Gill shared the news on LinkedIn.
Saurabh Sharma, a Bengaluru native, co-founded and served as the president of the conservative organization American Moment. Previously, he was the state chairman of Young Conservatives of Texas and a journalist for the Daily Caller. Sharma holds a biochemistry degree from the University of Texas. His appointment was reported by Politico and confirmed by American Moment.
NRI Kush Desai Joins White House as Deputy Press Secretary
In another significant appointment, Kush Desai, an Indian-American former journalist, has been named Deputy Press Secretary by the White House.
Desai previously worked as Deputy Communications Director for the 2024 Republican National Convention and Communications Director for the Republican Party of Iowa. He also served as Deputy Battleground States and Pennsylvania Communications Director at the Republican National Committee, where he played a vital role in shaping narratives in key battleground states, including Pennsylvania. Trump secured victories in all seven battleground states during the election.
Reacting to the announcement, Desai tweeted, “I’m back, back in the DC groove.” The White House Office of Communications, under which Desai will work, is overseen by Taylor Budowich, Deputy White House Chief of Staff and Cabinet Secretary.
These appointments underscore the growing influence of Indian-Americans in shaping U.S. policy and governance under the Trump administration.
