Two teenagers charged in Gagandip Singh's murder case

London, February 26, 2011

Gagandip Singh, 21, of Bexleyheath, South London, owned satellite channel Sikh TV, was found dead in the boot of a burnt out car in Blackheath, south London, in the early hours of February 26, 2011. He was battered around the head- suffered severe head injuries, according to police.

Police officers found the the Mercedes C-class on fire in Angerstein Lane at around 2am.

The police officer said:

  • The police charged two teenagers:
    • Mundill Kaur Mahil, 19, of Maidstone Road, Chatham, Ken
    • Harvinder Singh Shoker, 19, of Charlton Park Lane, Charlton, southeast London.
  • Another 19-year-old man was also arrested
  • We believe the girl lured Gagandip to his death. Whether she was forced to, we don't know.

Mundill Kaur Mahil is a medical student at Brighton University. She had resumed contact with a former boyfriend months ago. They were being quizzed last night. She is alleged to have lured Gagandip Singh to Brighton where he was killed. The police searched her 3 storey home in Brighton, which she shared with five other medical students.

Gagandip Singh' family said:

  • He was a humble young man who valued a religion that promotes peace and spiritual service.
  • Embracing both religion and  Western culture, Gagandip was known as a young entrepreneur and had taken the leading role of his  family business since the tragic death of his father
  • He was very influential and very prominent in the Sikh community. 
  • When his father died, he had to pick everything up

Gagandip Singh:

  • He was the only son of his parents.
  • He has left behind his younger sister and mother, Tajinder Kaur, the widow of Charanjit Singh, who was shot dead in India in 2009 in a suspected contract killing
  • He founded the British Sikh Student Federation in 2008 and launched satellite channel Sikh TV last year.
