UK NRI Charanjit Singh shot dead in India during an alleged contract killing
This all happened, when Charanjit asked Kamal Kumar to pay back his money or transfer the property to his name he hatched a conspiracy to kill him

Mr Charanjit Singh who ran an employment agency in Plumstead High Street, UK, was shot in the head outside a hotel, a marriage Palace on Jalandhar-Phagwara Road attending a marriage party of a lady official, a sister of a Chief Parliamentary Secretary representing Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
According to Punjab Police :
- Mr Charanjit Singh was shot by a contract killer, after he asked Kamal Kumar, to repay money Mr Singh had given him.
- During Kamal Kumar's stay from 2007 to 2009 with Charanjit Singh at England, Kamal had received a sum of Rs 35 to 40 lakh (£46,000) from him for buying property for him in Punjab.
- But Kamal purchased four plots using the money and got them registered in the name of his family members.
- Four accused, out of the six – Kamal Kishore, Vipan Kumar, Ashwani Kumar and Narinder Singh are behind the bars as they have been booked under section 302 while two others Rajiv Syal and Raj Kumar have since been released on bail.
- Kamal Kumar hired Vipin Verma, brother of Dr Ravi Verma to kill Charanjit Singh for Rs 8 lakh. A payment of Rs 3 lakh was made to Vipin Verma after he got the ‘job’ done
Mr Charanjit Singh’s wife Tajinder Kaur, 43, and 17-year-old daughter Amandeep Kaur are also in India. Charanjit Singh's son had already returned to UK, flew back to India after hearing the shocking news.
Charanjit Singh ran employment agency The Superior Service in Plumstead High Street.
According to Harbhajan Singh:
- He was very calm and quite personable. He was friendly and always helpful.
- The employees and business colleagues are very saddened by the sudden and tragic death of Charanjit Singh.
- He really was a well liked person in the community
Another friend said Mr Singh had helped arrange many marriages over the years and would often financially help people in India.
