Mela teeyan da 2010 was celebrated with great success. This year this festival was celebrated in a State of art facility “The Ranch in Corona CA”. Ladies got together from near and far with great enthusiasm. Baljit toor President of Virsa American Punjabi club welcomed the audience and started the program with long lok geet “Amba te tutan Thandi shawn ne Koi pardesi jogi ah lathe ne” Then other mothers Amar Kaur Mahal, Joginder Kaur Gian Kaur mata ji mohinder kaur Randhawa, a hundred years old grand mother Nasib Kaur joined and sang songs of their time.

A very polished Punjabi singer Parmjeet pami in her melodious voice sang Kafian by Baba Bulehshah and on special request she sang a song written by Shive kumar Batalvi “Bhathi waliye” which touched the heasrt of every single person. Gurdeep Kaur a famous Punjabi singer from the area also sang some old and new Punjabi songs.
When mela was going full swing, floor was open for gidha for hours. Mothers and daughter’s bhabis and Nanads and friends were dncing and enjoying the day. No Punjabi mela can be complete without gole gupe, chat, samosa and mouth watering lunches and mithais.
There were jewelry and clothes stalls.Time to time Baljit toor shared the importance of the day and also reminds ladies of their responsibility to nurture the daughters and spread the word around to save the unborn girls.
Gidha teams came from allover to show their talent. No One can forget the gidha byNachdian Punjabna, and “Majajna” Cerography by Jyoti Bhullar from Walnut gurdwara. PCC,s mothers and daughters team brought a new flavor to the mela. PCS from San DIego (Punjabi Cultural Sosiety) who is planning their own Mela this weekend on August 21st from 1-6pm, also supported and Participated in this event. Sarina played rhythmic Dhole and shared her talent which is very rare to sing a duet in male and female voice. Junior teams of Virsa American Punjabi performed two other dances and made this day so special for the audience.
Like every year this year again Competition of Mrs. Chunkan mele de was very tuff. Five Judges Manpreet Toor ,Ranjit kaur, Soma Sidhu, Sharanjit Samra Gurpreet kaur were given the difficult task to pick most cultured, intelligent , well informed, who also came to the mela in full Punjabi attire. No one could have been better then Baljit Grewal was chosen as Chaukan Mele de. Everyone is aware about She and her husband’s Iqbal Grewal’s dedication for the culture from last twenty years. Kamlesh Mishra was first runners up and Kulvir Randhawa came as second runnersup.
Host team “Kunja Punjab deeyan” from Virsa American Punjabi Club, Cerographed by Herpreet Sekhon finished the mela with their dashing performance.
This whole program was put together by the host team Harpreet sekhon, Narinder Virk, Jaspal mann, Neetu Chokar,Mina Gill, Rosy, Harmeet, Beeba, Rano, Deepee brar, Rupinder kaur, Gurdeep kaur Sukhwinder and Baljit toor.

It is hard to put every one’s name here .Next year this Mela will be held at the Diamond Community center on Sep 10th 2011.
About six hundred ladies attended the event this year next year we will try to make it bigger and better.
