Virsa American Punjabi club celebrated Mela Teeyan Da in La Verne Community Center on Sept. 20th, 2009.It was so amazing to see young girls and ladies in their colorful outfits to make this Mela Teeyan Da more wonderful and friendly. These celebrations can be a window and allow our spirits to grow in profound ways. Teeyan is the women’s dance festival of pubjab. Giddha can be seen at its best during the celebration and it is celebrated in the month of Sawan.

The Chaunkan Male de’s title was won by Kamal Sandhu,
Last years Chaunkan Male de Jaswinder Jawandha crowned her.
Jyoti Bhullar won second and Navjot Kaur came third.

The program started 2pm with great Punjabi Bhangra songs. Mela Teeyan da was a great success. It was way beyond expectation. The show was completely sold out and even after this, there were still people standing inside the hall, and a lot more enjoying the food, buying bangles, jewelry, and clothes.

People were having such a wonderful time. Even though it was a Sunday, no one was in a rush to leave. There was such a variety in the program that it included kids from five to seventy years of age. I think mothers and grandmothers had the most wonderful time when they got the floor to themselves.

There were several gidha teams, Majajna from Walnut Gurdwara, Nachdiyan Punjabna, Nakhrey kurian de, Taur Panjabana de, Nakhre Kuriyan de, Kunja Punjab Deeyan, Bhangra by Namneet, Navdeep and Jyoti Sekhoan and other gidha and bhangra teams. It was amazing to watch Arveen, Gian kaur, Gurdev and Kiran, Four to six years of age sang bollian, It was hilarious to watch Amli and Lamberdarni ( Parwinder and Baljit ) again this year. Miss Puja’s duet was sung by a young girl, Sabrina, in male and female voice. The crowd danced even during the intermission to the beat of her Dholes. All the sponsors were honored with Plaques of thanks.

Catering was provided by Haandi, which is located in Rancho Cucamongo California, and the food was excellent. Baljeet Toor was the main organizer for this program and she thanked to all sponsors and also to those who participant in this program. The program ended around 6:30pm and everybody enjoyed this wonderful program.
