NRI Priti Patel, Former British Home Secretary, has been appointed as the Shadow Foreign Secretary by Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch. Badenoch, who recently succeeded Rishi Sunak as leader of the Conservative Party and Leader of the Opposition, aims to strengthen party unity through her frontbench appointments. Patel will now join the opposition benches in Parliament, alongside Robert Jenrick as Shadow Justice Secretary and Mel Stride as Shadow Chancellor.
After the announcement, Patel expressed her support for Badenoch in a social media post, encouraging party members to unite behind the new leader to “regain the trust of the British people.” She shared her eagerness to support Badenoch in challenging the current Labour government and advancing the Conservative Party’s vision for Britain.
This appointment follows Patel's participation in the race to succeed Sunak as Conservative leader. The new Shadow Cabinet lineup signals Badenoch's commitment to a unified, effective opposition against Labour, rallying her team for a renewed push for Conservative principles.
