NRI Vikram Chatwal choses Udaipur for pre-wedding bashes

Rajasthan's picturesque lake city Udaipur has become a favourite destination for celebrities to exchange their wedding vows. The latest in line are US millionaire NRI and hotel tycoon Vikram Chatwal and model Priya Sachdev.
Awed by the beauty and serenity of the city, both Vikram and Priya decided to have their pre-wedding parties in Udaipur before they actually tie the knot on February 19 in New Delhi, sources said.

Udaipur's famed City Palace was the centre of action yesterday where a gala party was held at its Janana Mahal. The Laxmi Chowk in the palace was done up beautifully and caught the fancy of the guests. The colour cominations were done subtly and tastefully.

The city will witness a number of other parties at Lake Palace Hotel, Jagmandir and Devigarh Palace.

A number of celebrities including Samajwadi leader Amar Singh, Steel king Laxmi Mittal's son Aditya Mittal, super model Naomi Campbell, actor Arjun Ramphal, Asha Parekh particpated in the wedding celebrations.

Sources said a 'white theme' party was arranged here on valentine's and the entire venue was done up with flowers. The guests were regaled by the qawwali and ghazals.

Around 400 guests are expected to attend the wedding including former US president's wife Hillary Clintion and daughter Chelsea.

NRI, actor Vikram Chatwal, son of New York-based hoteliers Sant Singh Chatwal is marrying Priya Sachdev ( the Delhi model) in Delhi on February 17, 18 and 19.

There will be parties in Mumbai on February 11, 12 and 13, more parties in Udaipur on February 14 and 15 — palace hotels Shiv Niwas, Devigarh Fort and Jag Mandir in the middle of Lake Picchola have been hired.

The actual barat and wedding in Delhi on February 17, 18 and 19. There will be mehndi at a Delhi farm, barat, Jaimala and “Anand Karij”, the wedding ceremony, concluding with a black tie reception for, at least, 1,000 people at the Maurya Sheraton. This wedding will more Punjabi style

He met Priya Sachdev through Queenie Dhody, the Mumbai-based former Miss India who has been called “a major player on the city’s social scene”.

Vikram Chatwal had been planning the wedding for a year and that he was making an effort to show off India to his important visitors from all over the world.

It will also include such as “Evening of Mujra”, “Sheesha”, and “Fantasia”, a masked ball, in Udaipur.

The rap artist, Diddy (previously known as P Diddy and, before that, as Sean Combs, Puffy and Puff Daddy), may come as Vikram has been to his birthday party held in Morocco. But he is said to have a “very busy schedule”
• Supermodel Naomi Campbell, who has an apartment in Trump Tower in New York and is “both Vikram’s friend and neighbour”. She has also done a small film in New York with Vikram and been with him to parties, which have also been attended by Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan (they, too, have been asked to the wedding)
• Victoria Aitken: from UK, Vikram is expecting to see Victoria Aitken, daughter of former Tory MP Jonathan Aitken, and her stepsister, Petrina Khashoggi.
• Robert Hanson, son of the late industrialist, Lord Hanson, has also said yes, as has the heir of the Green Shields stamps empire, Tim Jeffries, who was once married to Koo Stark, a former girlfriend of Prince Andrew.
• “Lakshmi Mittal is coming with his wife, Usha, his son, Aditya, and daughter-in-law (Megha). He is the biggest steel maker in the world. We are very proud of him.”
• Other foreign guests are from showbiz, films, music, modelling and generally folk who get into the gossip columns.
• Manmohan Singh, whom he describes as “a godsend to India” — “I’ve known him for many years” — will come, along with several members of the cabinet.

  Vikram acted in One Dollar Curry, English film Hope and a Little Sugar and Ek Ajnabee and Karma. His father Sant Chatwal owns Hampshire Hotels & Resorts and the Bombay Palace chain of restaurants in the US.

Priya Sachdev to Wed on Valentine's Day

November 2005 --Model Priya Sachdev, who has worn a 10-carat diamond engagement ring on her finger from Bollywood actor/famed hotelier Vikram Chatwal since December 2004 when he asked for her hand inside a Mumbai temple, is to wed her long time love on Valentine's Day 2006.

Currently promoting his latest Bollywood feature, "Ek Ajnabee," the prospective groom is searching for a ceremonial venue in the cities of Delhi and Udaipur.
