NRI, Nadeem Ahmed of "Global Tea and Commodities
Ltd" received Queen's Award for Enterprise 2005,
one of Britain's most prestigious awards for business
performance.
Global Tea & Commodities Ltd, receives the Award
for its management approach to unification of the
tea, coffee and Macadamia nut supply chain. The company
is fully engaged with its wholly-owned supply base,
employing circa 13,500 people, and helps them reduce
fossil fuel consumption, practice water conservation,
improve biodiversity and minimise waste arising through
a number of initiatives. Similarly, in the social
dimension the company has a number of schemes which
serve to improve the livelihoods of employees in developing
countries, including: a fair wage programme, a monthly
Works Council, free creche facilities for working
mothers, free schooling for workers' children, and
free health education training for staff and their
families. The company is also in the process of attaining
full certification to the Ethical Tea Partnership
for all of its plantations.
At the Whitehall Palace, NRI Ahmed was presented
the hand-made crystal bowl and a certificate on behalf
of the Queen. After receiving the award, he said the
company has been having a rollercoaster ride during
the last eight years when it effected 12 acquisitions,
11 of which were making profit now.
NRI Ahmed statred this business in 1992 with just
two employees and now have an annual turnover more
than 80 million pounds. His company have geographical
reach to UK, Europe, Asia, Africa, America, Middle
East.
Company's plantations in Tanzania and Malawi produce
the finest range of tea and coffee and the largest
producer of macadamia nuts in Central Africa.
Company's tea trading offices in Kenya, Malawi, India
and the UK combine to provide total solutions to the
tea trade by way of procurement, warehousing and blending
services.
With packing operations in major tea centres of the
world, Global Tea provide a wide range of tea and
