Florida Officials released audio of an Oklahoma pediatrician’s eerie 911 calls claiming her young daughter was drowning in a pool at a short-term rental home in El Portal. Investigators said it was all an act to cover up the little girl’s death.

Gupta said her daughter got into the pool at the home at 156 NW 90th St. while she was asleep.

The 911 operator encouraged Gupta to try and find a way to get the little girl out of the pool.

“You need to try and get her out of the water,” the operator tells her. “Find something to see if you can try to pull her out with.”

According to the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office, no water was found in Aria Talathi’s, lungs or stomach and was dead before she was placed in the pool.

Investigators believe she was smothered to death.
Gupta was later arrested at her home in the sooner state.

  • Aria’s father had been seeking full custody before her death, raising concerns about Gupta’s mental state. He had no idea his daughter was taken to Florida.

Gupta and her lawyers maintain that Aria’s death was an accident.

Gupta remained in jail with no bond as of Monday. She is due back in court in May.

According to POLICE REPORT- July 02, 2025

The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office (MDSO), Homicide Bureau detectives arrested the mother in connection to the death of her 4-year-old child.

According to investigators, uniform officers from the Village of El Portal Police Department responded to reports of a drowning child in a residential pool. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and transported the child to an area hospital, where medical staff pronounced her deceased.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the mother, Pediatrician Dr. Neha Gupta, and her daughter had traveled from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and were staying at a short-term rental.  During the overnight hours, a 9-1-1 call was received stating the child was drowning inside the pool.  Once officers arrived, they discovered the victim unresponsive inside the pool.  Through investigative means and consultation with the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Dr. Neha Gupta and traveled to Oklahoma City.  With the assistance of the Oklahoma City Police Department’s Homicide Unit and the United States Marshals Service, they were able to locate and take her into custody.

Note:  Dr. Neha Gupta is pending extradition to Miami-Dade County where she will be charged with Murder in the 1st Degree.  There is no arrest affidavit nor booking photo available at this time.
