Rajinder Dhunnau elected President of Federation of Indo-American Association

Federation of Indo-American Associations of Southern California, FIA-SC established in 1979 did an installation ceremony of its board for the year 2010-2011.

The oath ceremony was administered by Mr. Inder Singh, one of the pioneer members in establishment of the FIA-SC. Mr. Inder Singh on the occasion talked about the historical role FIA-SC has played in many important issues affecting Indo-American community. He also congratulated FIA-SC in its efforts to bring together two large associations and for the unified efforts, which have been difficult task to achieve in the past.

Rajinder Dhunna, the new president for this year spoke of his commitment as the new President. He said he is honored to be the President and will work hard to fulfill his responsibilities to the best of his abilities and live up to the trust and expectations of his team, advisory board, and community. He also reiterated the need to work with many different associations started in the prior year so that the Indian community has a strong voice. He also thanked the sponsors and patrons present at the ceremony for their continued support. Rajinder has been working under FIA-SC for past several years. He is owns a few retail businesses in Southern California.

Anju Garg, the outgoing president and the chairperson of FIA-SC talked about the achievements and programs done during the prior year. Year 2009-10 has a special distinction of working in collaboration with UFICA, another community based association, to have a single Independence Day event lasting 3 days. FIA-SC did a very successful Republic day event at Cerritos Center for the performing arts which was attended by large Indian community and many city officials. An Immigration workshop organized by Ajoy Dube and Rajinder Dhunna was also a great success. FIA-SC helped in many grass root programs throughout the year. Haysa Kavi Samellan by three famous artists from India was well received by the audience and their fun filled recitations brought our motherland closer to us.

The FIA-SC board team is a group of many dedicated and hardworking community leaders who represent many different sections of the Indian-American Community.

The board of directors are Anju Garg - Chairperson, Rajinder Dhunna - President, Aparna Hande - Exe-Vice President, Balvinder Garcha - Exe-Vice President, Venkat Gopalan - Secretary, Ajoy Tongire - Joint Secretary, Baljinder Tahim - Treasurer, Navin Gupta - VP-Cultural, Smita Bagla - VP-Cultural, Varsha Parikh - VP-Community, Baburaj Dharan - VP-Public Relations, Jaspal Maju - VP-Senior Affairs, Preeti Tilve - VP-Youth Affairs, Sunil Garg - VP-Fund Raising, and Santanu (Sam) Bose - VP-Planning.The Advisory Committee members are Ishwar Deedwania, Ajoy Dube, Kewal Kanda, and Ajmer Singh.
