MOE GILL,born in Punjab , India , arrived in Canada in 1955, and moved
to Abbotsford in 1975. Moe has served on Abbotsford Council since 1996.
He currently sits on nine committees: Agricultural Select Committee;
Greater Vancouver Regional District Parks Board; Matsqui Dyking, Drainage,
and Irrigation Committee; Sumas Dyking, Drainage, and Irrigation Committee;
Parks and Recreation Commission; Abbotsford-Mission Joint Transit Committee;
Abbotsford Downtown Business Association; AgriFair Board; and Canada
Day Committee. Moe has served with many organizations, including: Fraser
Valley Cole Crop Growers Association; Fraser Valley Strawberry
Growers Association; B.C. Raspberry Growers Association;
Federal Agricultural Employment Services; MSA Museum Society; Fraser
Valley Indo-Canadian Business Association; Abbotsford-Matsqui Rotary;
Dashmesh Punjabi School ; and Abbotsford Foundation.
Moe Gill lives the motto of the Rotary Club The 4-Way Test:

Moe Gill feels that Abbotsford is a beautiful City with much growth
potential, and is grateful to have the opportunity to serve the community.
His success in public life is mirrored on his personal side. Through
hard work, Moe is a past title winner of the British Columbia Seniors
Champion in amateur wrestling.
Moe and his wife Jagdish have two children a son and a daughter and
now a grandson.

Dr. Gulzar Cheema , Liberal,
Member of Parliament from Fleetwood - Port Kells
Dr. Gulzar Cheema became the MLA for the riding of Surrey-Panorama
Ridge in the 2001 provincial general election. He served as the Minister
of State for Immigration and Multicultural Services and as Minister
of State for Mental Health.
Dr. Cheema was elected in 2001 to represent the riding of Surrey-Panorama
Ridge. He was also a member of the Legislative Assembly in Manitoba
for five years and served as critic for health, labour, housing, native
affairs, sport and co-operatives, and consumer and corporate affairs.
Before his election to the British Columbia Legislative Assembly, Dr.
Cheema was a family doctor in Surrey. He has practised medicine in rural
Manitoba and in Winnipeg, and was a clinical instructor in the Punjab
before coming to Canada in 1979. His special interests include neonatology,

Sukh Dhaliwal,
Liberal, Member of Parliament from Newton - North
Delta
Sukh Dhaliwal, born in 1960, is a very active member of our community
who has worked hard to make Surrey a stronger and more vital place for
all of us. He delivers on his commitment to our community. He is a volunteer
member of the Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation's 'Emergency Campaign
Cabinet' that will raise millions of dollars to assist in the construction
of an expanded emergency ward at the hospital. He is also committed
to our business community being an active member of the Surrey Chamber
of Commerce.
Sukh Dhaliwal is a strong advocate on issues such as youth violence,
affordable post secondary education, health care, human rights and transportation.
Multiculturalism and immigration are also issues that benefit our community
and have Sukh's active involvement.
Sukh is a professional engineer. He completed his studies at the University
of Calgary and at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. Sukh
is a small business owner, based in Surrey, and directly employs 15
people in a successful land surveying enterprise.
Sukh Dhaliwal has been a supporter of Paul Martin since 1990. That
support continued as he assisted Paul in British Columbia during the
2003 Liberal Leadership contest and at the Leadership convention in
Toronto.
Sukh Dhaliwal remains filled with a strong sense of hope, of opportunity
and full ambition that he had when he arrived in Canada twenty years
ago. In seeking to be our Member of Parliament, he dedicates himself
to creating opportunity and hope for our community and our youth, now
and for the years ahead.
Sukh is married to Roni, they have two school-aged children and a newborn,
and together they look after his mom and dad.
Jasbir S.
Cheema , Conservative, Member of Parliament from Surrey
North
Jasbir S. Cheema was born in a remote village in Punjab, India. His
family migrated to India during the 1947 bloody partition of the country,
abandoning their home, family, and friends in the newly created Pakistan.
While in school, Jasbir spent most of his spare time helping at the
family farm. He had a lot of chores, as he hoed, ploughed, took care
of the animals, and helped his family irrigate the farm. With his chores
and his school, Jasbir often to stayed up late in the evening to finish
his homework for school.
Hard work finally paid off, he completed both his Bachelor's and Master's
in Science in 1982 at PAU, one of India's most prestigious universities.
That same year, Jasbir migrated to Canada, where he continued his academic
pursuits at the Humber College of Applied Arts and Technology. Jasbir
graduated from Humber College in 1986 as a recipient of one of the school's
awards for academic excellence.
Upon graduation, Jasbir applied his academic training towards a position
at Corporate Foods research (Dempster's Bread), where he conducted research
on food science and development at their laboratories in Ontario.
Following his employment with Dempster's, Jasbir went on to become a
small business owner, first as the operator of a successful mobile food
catering business, and subsequently as the owner of a driving school,
a company he continues to manage to this day.
Jasbir has maintained a strong profile in his community, having served
as a weekly host on CJMR 1190 Radio for four years, and also as a host
and co-producer for a weekly program with City TV, in Toronto. Most
recently, Jasbir became the first live news anchor on Channel M, Vancouver's
first mainstream multicultural station, where he has received accolades
for his dedication and skill in investigating and reporting current
events to the multicultural communities of the Lower Mainland.
Jasbir and his wife Sue are happily married and have four young children
all attending local schools.
Hira Chopra
, Liberal, Member of Parliament from Nanaimo-Alberni
Hira Chopras roots in Port Alberni are deep and strong. He was
born in India and went to the Punjabi University graduating with a Masters
Degree in History and a Diploma in Physical Education. Hira has been
a resident of Port Alberni for 24 years, he and his wife Narinder have
raised two children here.
Hira has been involved in a wide range of community organizations and
is deeply committed to a healthy and vibrant community. He supports
several amateur sports teams in the region.
Hira is a member of IWA Canada Local 185, Rotary Club of Port Alberni
and serves as a director on the Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce.
His work experience is wide-ranging, he is a small business owner in
Port Alberni and works at the Alberni Pacific Division sawmill.
Hira also has extensive political experience. He has served three terms
(8 years) on Port Alberni City Council and is currently Chair of the
Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District. Hira was your candidate in the
last election and a long term liberal member for over 20 years.
