The Great Khali was the star attraction at the Mega Cultural event cum Republic Day celebration organized by the newly formed Indo-American Cultural Association of Southern California. The show was held at The Diamond bar Community Center on January 23, 2009. The festivals celebrated were Uttarayan, Pongal and Lohri. Artesia Mayor Tony Lima was the special guest of honor.
As soon as the great Khali, whose real name is Dalip Singh Rana, entered the hall, he was given a standing ovation by about 500 NRIs. The formal reception started with Moti Kapoor, welcoming everyone and speaking about the three festivals. He invited Dilip Butani, to introduce and invite the Chairman Sam Bhogal.
Sam introduced the Great Khali and invited him to light the lamp. This was followed by national Anthems of USA and India. Khali spoke thereafter and presented the awards and certificates to the committee members and sponsors. The reception was followed by a wonderful Cultural show. The show ended with a sumptuous food catered by Diamond Palace.
The Committee that put up the wonderful show included Surinder Bhogal, Atul Gandhi, Moti Kapoor, Dilip Butani, Amrit Bhandari, Ravinder Verma, Balwinder Garcha, Harjeet Bhogal, Ajay Khetani, Ravji Patel, Manu Patel, Harjeet Bhogal, Ramesh Ramnani, Paul Nayak, Vandana Ranjan, Nitai Pathak, Amrick Singh, T,J Singh, Ketan Pandya, Paul Gotra, Venkat Alla and Ritu Chopra. The security was provided by Sam Awan.
