Orange County Zonal - Sri Hemkunt Speech Competition

SANTA ANA, 2013

The Orange County Zonal finals of the Sri Hemkunt Speech (SHF) competition were held at the Sikh Center of Orange County, Santa Ana on June 1st,  2013

Participants included the 1st and 2nd place winners from the Center level competitions held earlier at the Sikh Center of Orange County, Buena Park, Walnut and San Diego Gurudwaras. A total of 29 contestants spoke on different topics prepared from books distributed by the Hemkunt Foundation and were judged by a panel of judges that represented the above mentioned Gurudwaras. Prizes were given by Dr. Arinder Chadha to all the contestants and the medals for the winners

The 1st place winners of the speech competitions were: 

  1. Group I - Amitoj Singh from Santa Ana Center
  2. Group II - Jessica Kaur Ghai from Buena Park Center
  3. Group III - Noor Kaur from Santa Ana Center
  4. Group IV - Jaideep Singh from Walnut Center, and 
  5. Group V - Kamalpreet Kaur from Walnut Center.

These 1st place winners of the the Zonal round will travel to Washington DC for the International finals to be held from August 1st-August 4rth, 2013. 

Orange County Zonal convener, Dr. Ginny Kaur Chawla thanked all the participants, judges and parents. Volunteers included all the Center Coordinators, Gagandeep Kaur (San Diego), Jaspreet S. Kochar (Buena Park), Jasleen Kaur (Walnut) and Tervinder S. Miglani (Santa Ana), who helped with check in, judges coordination and score tallying.  Dr. Ginny recognized the  above 4 Center Coordinators,. who work very hard throughout the year, in motivating  and encouraging the kids to participate.  Their enthusiasm and dedication helps to bring participants from all 4 centers of Southern California together to make this Zonal event a great success. This is an annual event organized by Sri Hemkunt Foundation, NY, and Sikh centers and Gurudwaras across the US and UK.
