NRI Ruby Dhalla Cleared to Enter Liberal Party Leadership Race

NRI Ruby Dhalla, a former Member of Parliament, has officially been approved to run for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada. If successful, Dhalla would make history as the first NRI woman to lead the country as Prime Minister.
Dhalla, who represented Brampton—Springdale from 2004 to 2011, expressed her excitement, stating, "I am deeply honored to step forward in this historic leadership race. Canada has always been a beacon of diversity and opportunity."
While Dhalla’s trailblazing career is a source of pride for the South Asian community, she faces stiff competition from heavyweights like Mark Carney, backed by 52 MPs, and Chrystia Freeland, with 26 MPs' support.
The leadership election on March 9, 2025, will play a crucial role in shaping the party’s future and Canada’s political landscape. Dhalla’s candidacy highlights the growing importance of diversity and representation in Canadian politics.
