On August 2, disbarred lawyer Ravi Madasamy, also known as M. Ravi, received a 14-week jail sentence and a $5,500 fine for a series of offences committed between 2021 and 2023. These incidents include verbally insulting a saleswoman who couldn't hear him, slapping an acquaintance attempting to greet him, and pushing a restaurant waitress who asked if he wanted a drink.

In July 2023, at Sri Mariamman Temple on South Bridge Road, Ravi threw a plate of offerings on the floor and pushed a priest trying to pick them up. Later, he hurled vulgarities at several people in the temple. Returning to the temple in September 2023, he slapped a shop assistant out of frustration.

Ravi's other offences include throwing a glass perfume bottle at a paralegal and choking him at a North Bridge Road law firm in November 2021, insulting a saleswoman at a Joo Chiat boutique in January 2022, and slapping an acquaintance at an Upper Cross Street bookshop in February 2022.

In July 2023, while having a meal at a South Bridge Road restaurant, Ravi pushed a waitress to the ground, causing her to bleed from the back of her head, before verbally abusing the restaurant manager. The same month, police were called to Yio Chu Kang MRT station due to Ravi's disruptive behavior. Although he agreed to leave, he later got into a dispute with an SMRT employee and slapped the man in front of the police.

Ravi, diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2006, pleaded guilty in July 2024 to six counts of voluntarily causing hurt, one count of harassment, one count of using criminal force, and one count of causing public nuisance. During the hearing, Deputy Principal District Judge Luke Tan asked for positions on the weight of Ravi’s condition in sentencing.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Timotheus Koh argued that little weight should be given to Ravi’s bipolar disorder concerning his offences, noting multiple attempts to help him. Ravi's past convictions in 2004, 2009, and 2018 included fines and a mandatory treatment order for offences such as disorderly conduct, mischief, housebreaking, and voluntarily causing hurt.

DPP Koh sought an 18 to 24-week jail term and a $3,000 fine, stating that Ravi "cannot be allowed to hide behind this condition."
