Gurdwara Riverside, California Sikh Temple celebrated Mohalla today on March 26, 2023. More than 5000 people attended the event. Hola Mohalla unifies the Sikh community and strengthens their belief Holla in Guru’s teachings. It was a time for communal meals, prayer and religious songs, as well as lively, colourful processions, including displays of Gatka, the traditional Sikh form of self-defence martial arts. It was a true testament to following what the founder Sikh religion preached to spread the message of peace and communal harmony.
Hola Mohalla, also called Hola, is a three-day long Sikh festival which normally falls in March. It takes place on the second day of the lunar month of Chett, usually a day after the Hindu spring festival Holi but sometimes, coincides with it. Hola Mohalla is a big festive event for Sikhs around the world. At the langar, volunteers work to feed visitors in symbolic equality. The love and devotion in serving people through the langar, is as old as Sikhism, and all believers spend time in sewa , helping out at the langars.
