Cleveland, Feb. 01, 2011
Gary Singh, LA

After BS in mechanical engineering degree from Chandigarh's Punjab Engineering College, Manmohan Ahuja landed in US with $ 12 in his wallet to get admission in a mechanical engineering program at Ohio State University in 1970.

After A great success in Transmission business, donated $30 million to the health system in support of the Vision 2010 strategic plan. Ahuja Medical Center is named in honor of UH Board Chairman Monte Ahuja, his wife, Usha, and their family. University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center is a $298 million facility located near the intersection of Interstate 271 and Harvard Road at Chagrin Highlands in Beachwood.

UH officials expect the seven-story, 144-bed hospital to attract patients from Cleveland’s eastern and southeastern suburbs, as well as from northern Summit County. The project is being funded by a combination of bond proceeds, operating revenues, gifts and grants.

The first phase of the medical center project includes a 60,000-square-foot medical office building, which was opened except emergency ward, according to hospital official. The property has room for two additional towers, which could increase the total beds to 600 in the future.

About UH Ahuja Medical Center

  • UH Ahuja Medical Center is situated on a 53-acre campus near the intersection of I-271 and Harvard Road at Chagrin Highlands in Beachwood. The site offers convenient access from Cleveland’s eastern and southeastern communities, as well as Lake and Summit counties.
  • UH Ahuja Medical Center is named in honor of UH Board Chairman Monte Ahuja, his wife Usha, and their family, recognizing their extraordinary philanthropic leadership in support of Vision 2010.
  • Phase one of the UH Ahuja Medical Center project includes a 144-bed, seven-story hospital and 60,000-square-foot medical office building-both open for a combined 432,000 square feet. Its flexible design will allow two additional towers for a total of 600 beds.
  • The care available at UH Ahuja Medical Center will create a vital link to tertiary care services offered at UH Case Medical Center. It will offer a concierge model of care.
  • Plans call for a safe, supportive work environment with optimal ergonomic and operational efficiencies, including a “footstep-sensitive” design. The building’s shape, including its curved hallways, will help decrease the distances nurses will need to travel and patients will need to be transported.
  • Since nurses spend more time with patients than any other caregiver, the structure and design of nursing stations and medical dispensation facilities are critical to the patient experience. Increased lines of sight to all rooms from nursing stations will provide increased patient monitoring and less walk-time for nurses.
  • The large number of independent and UH-employed primary care physicians and specialists practicing in the surrounding area will now have access to an innovative medical facility that will meet their patients’ needs

Healing Environment

  • The hospital’s healing garden will provide an oasis for patients and families who need a therapeutic, calming environment.
  • These garden areas will also provide respite for hospital caregivers and support staff.
  • Interior finishes are strategically chosen to promote a healing environment both aesthetically and through the elimination of unhealthy off-gassing emissions.
  • Nature inspired selections, rich wood tones and soothing colors will promote a sense of well-being for patients and staff.
  • Art will be integrated throughout the facility to engage and uplift the spirits of patients and their families.

University Hospitals is committed to treating all patients with dignity and respect regardless of their financial status or ability to pay:
