The authorities are warning other business owners and employees
that fighting back could lead to a far worse outcome.

NRI Ravinder Singh Banga, 44, of Sacramento, who came to US from India with his wife and two children, only four months ago, was killed during an armed robbery.

Sheriff's Sgt. Tim Curran said:

  • On Monday, about 9:17 p.m, a man entered the convenience store at 4800 47th Ave and attempted to rob Banga, who was working behind the front counter.
  • Surveillance video shows Banga resisted the robbery attempt and the gunman shot and killed him.
  • The robber shot Banga once in the chest during the struggle, and then fled the store on foot.
  • The robber is believed to have been wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.
  • The suspect had a car, it is not confirmed
  • It appeared the victim was trying to protect himself and the business
  • Detectives suspect he was looking for the cash drop box and that he might have been familiar with the store's layout.
  • Second employee was working in a refrigerated area behind the store. He heard the gunfire and came in as the suspect was leaving.
