Manish Tewari
Born – 8th December, 1965.
Educational Qualifications – Bachelors Degree – Economics, Law (L.L.B.) Masters in Business Administration (MBA).

FAMILY BACKGROUND:-

FATHER:
Late Dr. V.N. Tewari was a Professor of Comparative Modern Indian Literature at Punjab University, Chandigarh. A nominated Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha). He was assassinated by the terrorists in 1984.

MOTHER:
Dr. (Mrs) Amrit Tewari is a Professor Emeritus and Former Dean of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh. Former President of the Indian Dental Association and Dental Council of India.

GRAND FATHER:
Late Sardar Tirath Singh was a Senior Advocate in the Punjab & Haryana High Court. Freedom fighter and a Minister in the Congress Govt. of Punjab and the erstwhile State of PEPSU 1950-1977.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND & CURRENT STATUS: -

Commenced Legal Practice in 1992. In 1995 founded the Law Firm, M/s. Tewari Gogia & Associates. The Firm is now called M/s. Tewari & Associates and based out of New Delhi. Practicing in the Supreme Court of India and Managing Partner M/s. Tewari & Associates. The firm has offices in all the major Metros in India.

PRINCIPAL FOCUS AREAS OF PRACTICE: -

Public Policy, Corporate Litigation, Telecommunications, Information Technology, Energy, Foreign Direct Investment, Direct & Indirect Taxes, Company Law, Arbitration, Contracts & Documentation.

Senior Standing Counsel of the Income Tax Department of the Union of India in the High Court of Delhi.

EXPERIENCE IN PUBLIC OFFICE :-

• A) NATIONAL SPOKESPERSON - INDIAN NATIONAL CONGRESS (INC).
• B) SECRETARY – ALL INDIA CONGRESS COMMITTEE 2004 Onwards. Did an earlier stint in the same position from 1997-1998.
  
  The All India Congress Committee is the National Secretariat of the Indian National Congress. Established in 1885, the Indian National Congress spearheaded the struggle for India’s liberation from the British Colonial Rule. Currently the Indian National Congress is the largest partner in the United Progressive Alliance’s Government.
• C) CONTESTED AS THE CANDIDATE OF THE INDIAN NATIONAL CONGRESS FROM THE LUDHIANA PARLIAMENTARY CONSTITUENCY (PUNJAB).
• D) NATIONAL PRESIDENT – INDIAN YOUTH CONGRESS - 1998 TO 2000

  The Indian Youth Congress is the largest democratic grass-roots youth organization in the world with an active membership of over 25 million young people.

• E) PRESIDENT – INTERNATIONAL UNION OF STUDENTS – 1992-93

  The International Union of Students (IUS) is the only International Organization of Students. Formerly headquartered in Prague (Czech Lands). It had a membership of 192 Organizations spanning 115 countries. Affiliated to the United Nations, UNESCO, WHO, UNHRC & UNHCR in the ECOSOC-category.

• F) NATIONAL PRESIDENT - NATIONAL STUDENTS UNION OF INDIA
  1988-92

  The National Students Union of India is the largest Organization of Graduate and Post Graduate Students. It has a membership of over 20 million with units in each and every graduate College and University of India.

• G) ADVISOR INSTITUTIONAL AFFAIRS - OBSERVER RESEARCH FOUNDATION (ORF).

  The ORF is the one of the foremost think tanks in India. It looks at issues of politics, governance, economy, development, social change and National Security. It has relationships with the leading research organizations in the United Kingdom, Russia, Germany, Israel, Japan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and the United States of America including Rand Corporation and the Brookings Institute. • a) A Keen sports person with an interest in Swimming, Tennis and Squash. Captained the Chandigarh & Punjab University teams to various National and Inter Varsity Swimming & Water polo Championships.
• b) An avid reader of History, Literature, Poetry, Military History, International Affairs and Strategic Studies.
