Indian Student, Om Brahmbhatt, Charged with fatally shooting his Grandparents and his Uncle

In a shocking incident, Om Brahmbhatt, a 23-year-old South Plainfield man, stands accused of fatally shooting his grandparents in their sleep, followed by multiple shots at his uncle, before promptly reporting the killings to 911. Brahmbhatt, who resided in the same home, disclosed these details to law enforcement upon their arrival.

According to court documents, Brahmbhatt obtained the handgun used in the crime online. He now faces charges of three counts of murder and three counts of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. The motive behind the tragic killings remains undisclosed, as indicated by court papers.

The South Plainfield police responded to the 911 call around 9 a.m. on Monday, rushing to the residence at 324 Coppola Drive in the Traditions condominium complex, located off New Durham Road.

Court papers reveal the horrifying scene at 324 Coppola Drive, as Dilipkumar Brahmbhatt and Bindu Brahmbhatt, both 72, were discovered in one bedroom, each with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. In another bedroom, their 38-year-old son, Yashkumar Brahmbhatt, sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body but was still alive. Tragically, Yashkumar succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

The victims were not only family but connected through multiple relationships—Dilipkumar and Bindu were married, and Yashkumar was their son. Om Brahmbhatt, the alleged perpetrator, is Yashkumar's nephew and the grandson of Dilipkumar and Bindu Brahmbhatt, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.

Upon police arrival, Om Brahmbhatt was present at the crime scene. A firearms holster was discovered on him, and the suspected handgun was found within the home, as indicated by court papers.

In a chilling turn of events, Brahmbhatt, in a video and audio recorded statement at police headquarters, admitted to shooting all three relatives with a firearm purchased online. He detailed shooting his grandfather first, followed by his grandmother, both while they were sleeping, according to the court documents.

Following the chilling details already disclosed, court papers reveal that Om Brahmbhatt proceeded to another bedroom after shooting his grandparents, where he mercilessly shot his uncle multiple times.

In a grim sequence of events, after perpetrating these heinous acts, Brahmbhatt dialed 911, as indicated by the court papers.
