Vancouver police arrested
Amandeep (Deep) Manj of Manj group (Gang)
Vancouver, Aug 14, 2009
Surinder Kaur
Amandeep (Deep) Manj, 23, was arrested from his family home on
Fieldstone Drive in Vancouver. A search warrant of the home led
to the discovery of two firearms and ammunition. Associate Christopher
Premjit Barr, 23, was also arrested last Thursday at his family
home on East 54th Avenue in Vancouver. Amandeep is facing 18 charges
of trafficking and possessing guns illegally.
Five guns allegedly linked to the pair were on display at a police
news conference, including an AR-15 military assault rifle.
In 2006, Manj, his brother Sonny and kidnap victim Harjit Toor
were accused of knowing about the disappearance of 300 pounds
of marijuana belonging to their IS friends, Randy Naicker and
Roman Narwal. Toor was kidnapped and tortured and Manj was forced
to take a lie detector test conducted by a former cop hired by
the gang. Both Naicker and Narwal were convicted. The victim said
he didn't know where it was, but had been called by Manj to give
Manj's brother and some friends a ride after they abandoned a
plan to deliver the pot
Manj group— which has been at war with the Sanghera
gang. The Manj group has long-standing ties with the Independent
Soldiers and in particular the Adiwal twins-Mike and Peter, and
their close associate Gurpreet (Gopi) Bains.
Four members and associates of the Manj group were arrested in
2008 for an armed robbery of a jewellery store in Richmond.
Insp. Mike Porteous of Project Rebellion, a
anti-gang police initiative to cut gun violence across Vancouver,
said:
- We targeted people at "Project Rebellion" that we
thought were the most active shooters in Vancouver
- Two alleged members of a crime group were arrested Aug. 6
and face 31 charges, most of them weapons-related
- With these violent gangsters behind bars, life became quieter
on the streets as the number of shootings fell dramatically.
“Shootings went from approximately 50 over the last three
years to zero involving the Sanghera group.
The Police say these latest arrests of Manj group
and in the past, the entire Sanghera group in jail, should make
things much safer in the city, especially in South Vancouver where
the groups were concentrated.
