Dr. Sudhir Prabhakar Dorle – Integration of Healthcare variables for better outcomes – reducing patient cost, medical errors, and increasing patient satisfaction.

  • Healthcare Industry is a trillion-dollar market, and doctors play a major role in this industry. People look upon them as next to GOD.
  • This is a noble profession, and most of them are working hard to keep up for the same.
  • In India doctor-patients ratio is outnumbered.

To manage with the available resources, hospital management should take the initiatives to integrate their hospitals vertically and horizontally for providing better services to their patients.

Dr. Sudhir Prabhakar Dorle has studied extensively in various areas of business administration and management (International Marketing, Finance, Strategic Management, Operations Management, Project Management, Quality Management, Information Technology); and worked for more than 25 years in various industries. He has gained in-depth knowledge and experience in every aspect of the business. He was one of the juries in two of the prestigious awarding bodies in the US, the Stevie Award for American Business Awards and Golden Bridge Awards for 2020 and 2021 in Entrepreneur Award Category.

Dr. Dorle saw and was amazed by the fact that most of the research scholars focused on how hospitals can be a more profitable business; but none of them thought from the patients’ point of view. What most of the patients’ and their families might be going through, in the prosses of their treatment and post-hospitalization, and what their expectations are?

Dr. Dorle had closely observed the patients’ suffering in India.

  • When he was in UK, he saw the healthcare system and noticed the difference.

  • When he went to the US, he saw a different approach towards the healthcare.

  • He decided to research in this area and try to get a better solution to the existing problems faced by the patients.

  • He did a thorough research on various aspects of healthcare variables that could probably help the hospitals to reduce patient costs, and medical errors; and increase patient satisfaction.

  • His research show how integration of healthcare variables can impacts patient cost, medical errors, customer satisfaction; and could create huge benefits to hospitals and healthcare related business organizations.

  • He focused on these areas, where the reduction in cost and increase in quality of treatment will bring customer satisfaction. Patients will visit more often to the hospitals even for their minor treatment, as it will become more affordable. In addition, strengthening hospital industry by strong network will help increase business to doctors, clinics, hospitals and the corporate.

Moreover, the more patients visit doctors and hospitals, the healthier society, community, and nation will be developed at large. Last but not the least, when the allied healthcare services start sharing their data with hospitals, and hospitals start sharing their patient’s medical history with other hospitals. This will reduce patients’ repetitive tests, doctors can start treatment immediately, and the patients’ trauma is reduced to a considerable amount.

Dr. Dorle highlighted the integration will not only considerably increase the hospital efficiency but also significantly improve quality of healthcare services and reduce cost of treatment, such as Laboratory services which increases the efficiency of hospital services by decreasing the time between diagnosis and initiation of treatment and Midwifery services which makes the hospital a complete care provider, as these services need integration of not only different specialties, but also different support services.

On finding his research work, a few of the Multispecialty hospital management approached him for his guidance in improving customer satisfaction and reducing patient costs, and medical errors. Those hospitals that started implementing the integration strategy in 2018, saw a good improvement in patient retention (increased by 41%) and their satisfaction (increased by 63%) with hospital services. Few hospitals and physicians have joined this integration program recently, just after covid 19 effect, so they are in the initial phase, it will take time to find the outcome of this implementation. The initial phase of implementation of this strategy will need at least a year or two to have proper results.

It's good to hear that someone is trying to give relief to patients and their families. Dr. Shirke, Dr. Patil, Dr. Joshi, Dr. Deshpande, Dr. Bembre are few of the Doctors from Nasik, Pune and Solapur were happy to share their experiences and they are satisfied with the outcome. They are also encouraging other known hospitals to try to implement this strategy for their hospital's overall growth.

Hence, the research work of Dr Sudhir Prabhakar Dorle - “The Effects of Hospital Integration on Patient Cost, Medical Errors, and Customer Satisfaction:

  • A Case Study on India” is not only helping the hospitals in providing the services with less medical error and increasing patient satisfaction but also helping the patients to have access to better quality and affordable healthcare services.
