The United Federation of the Indo-Americans of California (UFICA) and The Federation of the Indo-Americans of Southern California (FIAsc), celebrated with PRIDE and POMPUS, the 65th India Independence Day with a Private Dinner Event on August 10, 2012 at the "TORCH" restaurant in Buena Park, followed by the "MELA" at the Excelsior High School Grounds on August 11, 2012.

The Grand Marshal at both Events was Minissha Lamba who is a movie star by profession and has acted in many movies. The Chief Guest of Honor on August 11, 2012 Event was Consul General of India, Mr. N. Parthasarthy.

The UFICA President, Niraj Agnihotri and the FIA President, Aparna Hande, and both Chairs Vinita Vineet and Rajinder Dhunna, lead the Grand India Celebration Group on a positive level, bringing success to the 65th India Independence Day 2012 Events. There was the constant support and Input from the Founders, Trustees, Past Presidents and Chairs including each and every member in the GIC Group who did an Outstanding Job. The presence of UNITY prevailed at both Events with Heart Warming Efforts from all its members. There were approximately 100 booths at the MELA, portraying all businesses from Auto Industry, Food, Jewelry, Garments, Dance Studios like "NDM Bollywood Dance Productions" and also the Los Angeles County Recorders Office. This was the first time that all documents necessary for the upcoming Election including the Voting Ballots will be available in “HINDI” and the Ballots can be mailed in, prior to the Election.

All UFICA/FIA members participated in the planning, decoration, presentation, cultural activities and organized such a huge event. This GIC Group must be doing something right if they can manage such a huge function with no flaws, and doing a peaceful and extremely well organized presentation year after year.

UFICA/FIA organizations have received heartfelt appreciation from the Consular General of India, Mr. N. Parthasarthy, who was overwhelmed with the outstanding presentation of the India Independence Day 2012, and the cultural Program presented. He definitely drew the attention with his kind speech. The cultural efforts were from the Cultural Vice President Charu Miglani and the Cultural Vice President, Navin Gupta, who have had another successful year. They put up a cultural show that fetched appreciation and also appraise for their management skills. There was tremendous support seen from the GIC Group members when putting up this Cultural Show.

The Grand Marshall 2012 was Minissha Lamba who was cordial, good-humored, sociable and full of understanding, and interacted with the crowd and the participants with warmth and sincerity. She definitely drew the attention of the crowd with her speech as well. She was never in a hurry and sat throughout the program and listened and appreciated each and every item presented.

There was another attraction “KIDS CORNER” this year which brought added success and drew crowds of children to the ground. There were over 10,000 people who attended this function and enjoyed the event thoroughly.

The Independence Day - 2012 Mela will be held at the Excelsior High School Grounds on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 6:00 pm, where traditionally, we have approximately 12,000 people attending this show.
