NRI, Sridharan gets important slot in General Dynamics Land Systems, US company

An Indian American has been appointed to a key position in General Dynamics Land Systems, a new position reporting directly to the president, the company announced.

N.S. Sridharan, formerly vice president, propulsion systems, will be responsible as vice president, engineering programmes, for the business development and management of engineering programmes that include the US Army's Future Combat Systems, a programme to develop a communication network and new generation of combat vehicles, and Britain's Future Rapid Effects Systems, a similar programme for the British Army. The 55-year-old Sridharan, who joined Land Systems and its research and engineering organisation in 1983, has held positions of increasing responsibility in engineering and programme management.

Past assignments include director, structure and design; director, derivative vehicles; director, advanced programmes; director, mobility systems and advanced concepts; and director, propulsion systems. In 1999 he was appointed vice president propulsion systems responsible for the business development, engineering, integration, production and support of engines, transmissions, and suspensions for combat vehicles worldwide.

He holds a master's degree and a Ph.D. in materials science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Sridharan earned his undergraduate degree in metallurgy at the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, India.

The $19.2-billion revenue General Dynamics, headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia, employs over 70,200 people worldwide. It is a market leader in mission-critical information systems and technologies; land and expeditionary combat systems, armaments and munitions; shipbuilding and marine systems; and business aviation.
