US NRI, Inderjeet Singh Uppal a resident of Sector 8-C,
was arrested from Indira Gandhi International Airport for facilitating
immigration of a local boy by smuggling him off as his son. Ms Amarjeet
Kaur of Sector 44, complained that Inderjeet promised to send her son
Rohit Arjun Singh abroad on a student visa if she gave her Rs 10.16
lakh and she made the payment.
Ms Amarjeet Kaur's son Rohit Arjun, got his hair cut
as Uppal told him that he required a photograph with hair cut to be
put on the passport. Uppal then called him to his house to put his signatures
on documents bearing the name Yadavindra Singh Uppal. This aroused the
suspicion of Amarjit Kaur who felt that she had been cheated as Uppal
had taken 10 lakh for a genuine passport but appeared to be making a
false one. Amarjeet Kaur refused to send her son on a fake passport
showing Rohit Arjun Singh as Yandvinder Singh, son of Inderjeet Singh.
Photo of Rohit Arjun Singh was pasted on the passport under the name
of Yadvinder Singh. It was done to show Rohit Arjun Singh as Yadvinder
Singh.
Mr. Uppal had also allegedly sent many other youngsters
abroad on fake passports. Uppal had earlier shown three persons: Rajbir,
Amarbir and Kalpana, as his children in various documents by forging
his original ration card. Inderjeet Singh managed to get a fake passport
under tatkal scheme for Rohit Arjun Singh through a fake ration card
and a birth certificate. The ink was spilled on the name of the original
ration card holder and the name of the boy was over-written on it. Uppal
hid the details of names and addresses on the original ration cards
and birth certificates and filled up false details on photocopies.
Amarjeet told to police that Amarbir Singh, son of
Joginder Singh of Jagatpura village, had been sent abroad in a similar
manner on August 8, 1998. The police are also looking for two more passports
allegedly used to send two more persons by projecting them as Inderjeet
Singhs children.
Uppal had two passports with different addresses and
both passports and visas have also been seized. In September 2003, Inderjeet
Singh and his family went to the USA and returned recently.
