PANESAR SIGN UNTIL 2007

Northamptonshire County Cricket Club is pleased to announce that Monty Panesar has signed for 2 years. Mark Tagg Chief Executive said ‘The Club has shown progress from 2004 with the younger players taking their opportunities and excelling in pressure situations. The squad for 2006 is starting to take shape with quality throughout. We are confident that with Monty committed to the Club we can look forward to some exhilarating cricket in the seasons to come”

Monty Panesar joined Northamptonshire County Cricket Club in 1999 and has incorporated playing cricket with his obtaining his degree at Loughborough. Monty is a left arm orthodox spinner with immense talent and he has represented England U19 in 2000 and 2001. He played for Northants for the latter part of this season taking 41 wickets so far, 36 of which have been in the County Championship with an average of 23.97 and a best of 7-181.

After signing, Monty said “I had no hesitation in committing myself to Northamptonshire for the next two years. The Club has some good young players as well as experience in key areas and I am sure that we will be able to build on our performances next year. Personally I am looking forward to my first full season in 2006 and taking many more wickets as we hopefully challenge for promotion in the County Championship”.
