NRI Dr. Premila Thampi Suspended Over Forceps Delivery in UK

NRI Dr. Premila Thampi, 62, consultant gynecologist from Mitcham, South London, has been suspended for three weeks following serious professional misconduct charges. The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) in Manchester found that Dr. Thampi pressured a first-time mother at Milton Keynes University Hospital in 2016 to accept a forceps-assisted delivery—despite her clear request for a caesarean section—and dismissed her concerns by emphasizing her seniority.

The patient, who had a neuromuscular condition and was fully dilated but exhausted, later reported the experience as deeply traumatic, claiming the forceps caused injuries to her newborn’s head and facing the Ctribunal determined Dr. Thampi had failed to obtain informed consent and communicated inappropriately, constituting serious professional misconduct
