Biden Names about 25 NRIs To Top Positions On His Staff
Arun Majumdar, Kiran Ahuja and Dr. Vivek Murthy have been appointed in #1 top positions in the Biden-Harris transition

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are expected to be sworn-in as President and Vice President of the United States on 20 January 2021.

Arun Majumdar, Kiran Ahuja and Dr. Vivek Murthy have been appointed in top positions in the Biden-Harris transition teams, along with many other Indian-origin American citizens.

Arun Majumdar, appointed head the team of the Department of Energy, including designs, manufacturers and tests nuclear weapons. He is the director of the Precourt Institute of Energy at Stanford University.

Kiran Ahuja appointed as the head of the team dealing with the federal administration’s human resources agency, the federal investigation office for the civil service and the protection of whistleblowers. The agency review teams that are to ensure “a smooth transfer of power… transition organisation. 

  • She came from India as an immigrant and spent her childhood in Savannah, Georgia, and most of her adult life in Washington, DC.
  • She spent the greater part of her professional life being an advocate, both in and out of government, and brings that passion to the Philanthropy Northwest network and region.
  • Kiran served in the Obama Administration as chief of staff at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management and as executive director of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. She's a former civil rights litigator and nonprofit CEO. Her passion for service and commitment to improving the lives of communities of color grew out of a formative educational experience at her alma mater, Spelman College.
  • Kiran received her law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law. Kiran currently serves on the board of directors for Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy (AAPIP), the United Philanthropy Forum and the Wing Luke Museum.
  • Kiran is a yoga practitioner with a teacher certification and is working toward building a stronger meditation practice

On November 9, 2020, President-elect of the United States Joe Biden announced that Murthy would co-chair his COVID-19 Advisory Board, alongside former Food and Drug Administration commissioner David A. Kessler and Yale public health professor Marcella Nunez-Smith.

The team includes University of California Berkely physics professor Ramamoorthy Ramesh, who is one of the 21 Indian Americans appointed to teams dealing with different departments and agencies.

  • Sumona Guha- added on the team for the State Department, who had worked with Biden when he was the vice president as a Special Advisor for National Security Affairs, She is also a former senior director at the US-India Business Council.
  • Puneet Talwar, is on the team, who was the assistant secretary of state for political-military affairs in President Barack Obama’s administration and worked the Iran nuclear deal.
  • Dilpreet Sidhu: is Serving on the team for the National Security Council. She is former career diplomat who was special assistant the national security adviser and staff assistant to former Secretary of State John Kerry.
    • Pavneet Singh is on Dilpreet Sidhu’s team: Pavneet Singh had worked on the National Security Council (NSC) and National Economic Council at the White House. Pavneet Singh is  a China expert, an adviser to the Biden campaign and is also on the Science and Technology Policy team
  • Arun Venkataraman: added the teams for the Trade Representative and the Department of Commerce. He was the director for India in the office of the US Trade Representative and director for policy at the Commerce Department in the Obama administration.
    • Also  added Pravina Raghavan to Commerce Team: He was an adviser to Commerce Department in the Obama-Biden
    •  Also Added Atman Trivedi to Commerce Team: He was an adviser to Kerry when he headed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and later the senior director for global markets policy at the Commerce Department.
  • Asha M. George appointed at Homeland Security Department. Asha is a former military intelligence officer and paratrooper, who served as a staff director in the House of Representatives Committee on Homeland Security.
  • Subhasri Ramanathan,  a lawyer also appointed at Homeland Security Department. Subhasri was the deputy assistant secretary in the Homeland Security Department in the Obama-Biden administration and was senior counsel in the Senate Homeland Security Committee.
  • Bhavya Lal added to the NASA team. Lal has worked with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
