India's Lok Sabha Speaker attended the proceedings
of the select committee on economic affairs

NRI, Lord Swraj Paul, industrialist and British Ambassador
for Overseas Business along with Somnath Chatterjee
observed the functioning of the Economic Affairs Select
Committee yesterday which is equal to a parliamentary
standing committee in India. He also witnessed the
proceedings of both the Houses of British Parliament.
Mr Chatterjee said, "I am impressed with the
transparency with which the committees are functioning
here."

NRI, Lord Swraj Paul hosted a lunch in honour of
the Lok Sabha Speaker Chatterjee in the Barry Room
of the House of Lords. Some other members attended
including David Marshall MP- Chairman of the Commonwealth
Parliamentary Association, UK Branch , Andrew Tuggey-
Secretary of the CPA, UK Branch Baroness Amos and
, leader of the House of Lords and Lord President
of the Council.
Mr. Chatterjee was impressed with the transparency
with which the select committees of British Parliament
function and allowing the media to watch these proceedings,
he observed, is "definitely a step forward."
