Hina Mir , Hounslow Labour councillor has been suspended from the party after it was confirmed she illegally employed an Indian student Himanshi Gongley as a nanny.
Mir, a qualified solicitor and former Deputy Mayor, was fined £40,000 in January for paying 22-year-old Himanshi Gongley £1,200 a month in cash despite the student having no right to work in the UK.
- Mir kept the Himanshi Gongley on call “24 hours a day for six days a week” to look after her two children, the City of London County Court was told recently.
Mir appealed the penalty, but a City of London County Court judge upheld the fine, citing inconsistencies in her evidence.
Despite the ruling, Mir remained in office, and was appointed Chair of the Housing and Environment Scrutiny Panel, prompting criticism from opposition councillors.
A spokesperson for Hounslow Labour said: “Cllr Hina Mir has been suspended by the Labour Party. We do not comment on any internal investigations.”
Cllr Mir’s suspension only applies to her Labour Party membership. She is still a serving councillor.
Mir was also allegedly caught illegally parking her BMW in a disabled bay. The car was parked in the bay while a council meeting was taking place last week.
