Today marks the London Mayor election, with Indian-origin independent candidate Tarun Ghulati aiming to unseat incumbent Sadiq Khan. In a recent social media message, Ghulati expressed his intention to govern London with the efficiency of a CEO if elected.
Originally from Delhi, Ghulati, a businessman, has positioned himself as a staunch advocate for tackling crime, particularly following a recent sword attack in the London suburb of Hainault, which claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy. This incident has galvanized Ghulati's campaign, highlighting the urgent need for a crimefighting mayor in the British capital.
Challenging Sadiq Khan's bid for a third term, Ghulati contends that Londoners have been underserved by mainstream political parties and asserts the need for a new, dedicated leader to represent their interests across all sectors.
The mayoral election comes in the aftermath of a violent stabbing spree in Hainault on Tuesday, perpetrated by a 36-year-old individual who is now in police custody. The attack resulted in one fatality and left four others injured, including two police officers.
Reacting to this tragedy, Ghulati reaffirmed his commitment to prioritizing street safety, advocating for increased visibility of community policing and more officers patrolling the streets, especially to ensure the safety of women walking at night.
At 63, Ghulati is running as an Independent candidate among a field of 13 contestants in the local elections, where voters not only choose the mayor but also select members of the London Assembly.
In his election address, Ghulati outlined his vision for London as a global hub where diverse cultures converge to thrive. He pledges to govern the city with the efficiency of a seasoned CEO, prioritizing the well-being and prosperity of all residents.
