Lisbon, Portugal – In a symbolic gesture of friendship and respect, President of India Droupadi Murmu was presented with the 'City Key of Honour' by the Municipality of Lisbon during a ceremony held at the Câmara Municipal de Lisboa on Monday.
President Murmu warmly thanked the Mayor and the people of Lisbon for the prestigious recognition. She lauded the Portuguese capital for its inclusive spirit, cultural richness, and the hospitality of its people, highlighting Lisbon's longstanding values of openness, tolerance, and respect for diversity.
President Murmu also praised Lisbon’s role as a progressive global city, noting its leadership in technological advancement, digital innovation, and the development of robust digital public infrastructure. She emphasized that these are promising areas for enhanced cooperation between India and Portugal.
Later, President Murmu was hosted at a state banquet by the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, at the historic Palacio da Ajuda. During her address at the event, she highlighted the deep-rooted cultural bonds between India and Portugal, which span centuries and continue to influence both nations today.
