Anil Parekh, LA// Karen

Maninagar Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan, the worldwide center for spiritual, cultural, and social welfare, celebrated the Festival of Peace & Unity on occasion of the grand opening of Shree Swaminarayan Temple Los Angeles in Van Nuys, California.

A magnificent four-day festive was organized by the Shree Swaminarayan Siddhant Sajivan Mandal, West Coast – a non-profit organization. This festival was inspired by His Divine Holiness Acharya Shree Purushottampriyadasji Swamiji Maharaj, the current sovereign of Shree Swaminarayan Gadi – the divine, eternal throne of Lord Shree Swaminarayan. Acharya Swamishree has been spreading the message of peace and unity throughout the United States of American for the past two months and has been visiting the United States for the same purpose since the 1980s.

Disciples from different parts of United States and all over the world from countries such as the United Kingdom, Kenya, and India came to witness this once-in-a-lifetime event. As a part of the celebrations, a grand peace and unity parade was organized on the third day of the celebration on Van Nuys Boulevard. The Los Angeles Police Department was honored during this event for their important contributions and phenomenal support to the temple. City Councilman Tony Cardenas also attended this event as an honored guest. Charity donations were offered to various local organizations such as the Bernardi Senior Citizens Multipurpose Center and the Mid-Valley Police Council. A blood drive in coordination with the American Red Cross was also organized on the second day of the celebration. There were also several evenings of cultural and devotional performances by sants (ascetics of the Swaminarayan faith) and disciples from all over the United States.
