Older adults (age 65+) are at a potentially high risk for
complications from both the flu and pneumonia. Ask your doctor
if you should get a pneumonia shot. It can be given at the
same time as your flu shot. Usually one shot protects for
a lifetime.
You can also defend yourself by taking these precautions:
• Exercise regularly, eat nutritious foods and get
plenty of rest.
• Wash your hands often. You can pick up a virus from
even a handshake.
• Avoid touching the moist areas of your eyes, nose
and mouth.
• Avoid sharing cups, glasses or utensils among family
members or friends.
As always, consult your own physician regarding any medical
advice.
