NRI doctor, Rajiv Datta, specialize in cancer
of the breast, colon/rectum and endocrine system, soft tissue
tumors, melanoma and head and neck surgery, appointed as vice-chair
of its surgery department of The South Nassau
Communities Hospital, New York. The South Nassau Communities Hospital,
New York, is one of the best and largest hospitals with more than
400 beds, more than 800 physicians and more than 2,200 employees.
The Hospital is an acute–care, not-for-profit teaching
hospital that provides state-of-the-art care in cardiac, oncologic,
orthopedic, bariatric, pain management, mental health and emergency
services. In addition to its extensive outpatient specialty centers,
South Nassau boasts Long Island’s first gamma knife and
New York State’s first acute angioplasty program. Its Emergency
Services Department is a designated Stroke Center and the American
Society of Bariatric Surgery has named South Nassau a Bariatric
Surgery Center of Excellence. South Nassau is a member of the
New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System and a partner in the Winthrop-South
Nassau University Health System.
The department has taken this commitment from the operating room
and is now employing it in its medical office. It is employing
a comprehensive computer programming system for the modern-day
medical office that has all but eliminated the hassles, delays
and tedious filing caused by the traditional medical record system.
"What we are seeing," says Dr. Datta, "is increased
quality time with patients, not quantity time attributed to moving
around the office to access file cabinets and multiple computers
to retrieve records and information."
Patients are encouraged to bring a family member or friend with
them for support and to act as your liaison. Dr. Datta believes
in building strong relationships with both his patients and their
families. At times it is not only comforting to have a family
member with you, at the same time this person also serves as your
advocate asking questions you may have forgotten.
Dr. Datta only operates at South Nassau Communities Hospital
where he is the Chief of Surgical Oncology and Head & Neck
surgery.
"This is just the leading edge of our commitment to this
technology," said Dr. Datta. "As the technology evolves
for the benefit of the patient, we will be the first online to
upgrade our system." Some of our patients may require special
preps for their bowel if they are undergoing colon surgery. Instructions
for this will be given to you at the time of your visit if necessary.
Datta takes great joy in caring for his patients, who regard
him as a friend. "I learn every day from these people,"
he says. "Even if somebody knows they have six months or
eight months to live, you should see their attitudes. They go
about their lives, spreading happiness."
