NRI cardiologist and advocate for healthy living, Dr. Aseem Malhotra, premiered his latest documentary, "First! Do No Pharm," at London’s Leicester Square. The film sheds light on the profit-driven nature of the global pharmaceutical industry and the corruption within medical research.
Packed with expert testimonies from leading medical professionals worldwide, Malhotra's documentary challenges the unscrupulous practices of the pharmaceutical sector and its impact on global healthcare. "I took the Hippocratic Oath to protect patients, and this film is my mission to reveal the truth about our healthcare system," said Malhotra.
The film critiques overprescription, misinformation among doctors, and the influence of pharmaceutical companies on medical journals. "This is the most incendiary work I’ve done, and while it won’t sit well with profit-hungry pharma companies, it will save lives," Malhotra emphasized.
Directed by Donal O’Neill, the film features personal interviews with experts like Indian American Professor Jay Bhattacharya and Indian environmentalist Vandana Shiva. Dr. Fiona Godlee, former editor-in-chief of the ‘British Medical Journal,’ also highlights the troubling conflicts of interest between medical journals and pharmaceutical companies.
The documentary concludes on a positive note, showcasing the heart-reversal techniques of Dr. Satish Gupta in Mount Abu, India, where Yoga and lifestyle changes are promoted for cardiac health. "First! Do No Pharm" is available online and will soon screen in the US and India.
