Gandhian Society and Consulate General of India Commemorate 156th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

The Gandhian Society, in collaboration with the Consulate General of India, successfully hosted a special event to commemorate the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Royal Albert’s Palace in Fords, NJ.
The celebration brought together over 400 attendees, including community leaders, dignitaries, and representatives from various organizations, for an evening of reflection, remembrance, and renewed commitment to Gandhi’s timeless principles.
Ms. Pragya Singh, Consul for Community and Cultural Affairs, addressed the gathering and underscored the continued relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings of peace, non-violence, and selfless service in today’s complex global context.
Mr. Mahesh Wani, Secretary of the Gandhian Society, presented the organization’s Annual Report, reaffirming its mission to promote Gandhian ideals among youth through:
- Educational initiatives such as video and essay competitions.
- Cultural programs including talk shows, exhibitions, and prayer meets.
Mr. Wani also highlighted the Society’s ongoing humanitarian initiatives that benefit underprivileged communities both in India and locally. He concluded with a heartfelt appeal for donations to support those severely affected by recent devastating floods in India.
The evening’s cultural program was a vibrant tribute to the Mahatma’s life and message, featuring:
- A soulful Bhajan Sandhya by renowned singer Varsha Joshi.
- A Khadi Fashion Show by eminent designer Sonal Gadhavi.
- A thought-provoking short play, “Gandhi Zinda Hai,” by Deepak Gupta and team.
- Music and dance performances by talented local young artists.
Mrs. Bhadra Butala, Founder of the Gandhian Society, expressed her gratitude to all attendees and emphasized the collective responsibility of continuing Gandhiji’s mission of compassion and service.
