A 24-year-old Indian-origin man, Navroop Singh, has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the UK for the attempted rape of a woman and the rape of a child in two separate incidents. The sentence, handed down on July 4 at Isleworth Crown Court, includes a minimum term of 14 years.

Singh was found guilty of attempted rape and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offense following a four-day trial that concluded on Thursday, May 8, at Isleworth Crown Court. These charges relate to an incident on Sunday, October 13, 2024, in Southall Park, Ealing, where he used an imitation firearm to threaten a woman in her 20s during an attempted rape.

Earlier, Singh had pleaded guilty to three additional offenses: possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offense, rape of a girl under 13, and assault of a girl under 13 by penetration. These charges stem from the rape of a child at Hayes End Park, Hillingdon, on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.

An extensive investigation was launched by the Metropolitan Police after the initial report of attempted rape. Detectives utilized forensics, CCTV footage, and witness accounts to build a strong case against Singh.

Following the attempted rape on October 13, officers meticulously reviewed hours of CCTV footage. Just ten days later, the rape of a child occurred at a different park, prompting officers to immediately link the two offenses due to similarities. Increased resources were deployed, leading to the securing of additional forensic evidence.

Police efforts, including door-to-door leaflet delivery and increased patrols in the area, helped trace Singh to within a few doors of his home address. He was arrested on October 27.

Acting Chief Superintendent Sean Lynch, who oversees policing in the West Area, commended the "strength of the victim-survivors and their families" for their "unwavering bravery" in reporting these incidents. He further stated that the conviction is a "testament to the officers’ thorough investigation, which has identified a violent sexual offender and undoubtedly prevented further harm."
