NRI Sunita Williams, Butch Wilmore, Nick Hague, and Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov, NASA’s Crew-9 team, astronauts safely splashed down off the coast of Florida on Tuesday evening. Their SpaceX capsule made a smooth landing at 5:57 p.m. ET after spending an extended nine months in space.
Within an hour of touchdown, recovery teams hoisted the capsule onto a support ship, where the astronauts underwent initial safety checks. They were seen exiting the spacecraft in rolling chairs as their bodies readjusted to Earth’s gravity after an extended stay in microgravity.
The team will now undergo thorough medical evaluations on the recovery ship before being transported by helicopter to an airport in Florida. From there, they will board a flight to Houston’s Ellington Field, near NASA’s Johnson Space Center, where they will continue post-mission health assessments.
The successful return of Crew-9 marks another milestone in NASA and SpaceX’s partnership, ensuring safe and efficient space travel for future missions.
