New York's Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced that 74th
Street, between Roosevelt and 37th avenues, "Kalpana Chawla Way"
in honour of the astronaut. At a street-naming event in New York's Indian
quarters Jackson Heights (jocularly called Jaikishen Heights) to honour
the India-born astronaut Kalpana Chawla, who died in the Space Shuttle
explosion in February 2003, Bloomberg essayed a blooper that momentarily
          mystified the gathering.
He spoke effusively about how he had marched 30-40 blocks
with Chawla in August 2003 in New York City and how proud he was to
          have known he
It will be more impressive is when people walk by this
block and they see the sign, some will know and some won't know who
she was," he said. "They'll stop, hopefully, and look and
say that must have been somebody that made a difference."
