NRI Mahentharan, Malaysian man, Jailed for Smuggling Puppy into Singapore

NRI Manhentharan Ganesan, 43, Malaysian man, was sentenced to eight weeks in jail and fined SGD 2,500 for smuggling a puppy into Singapore. He hid the animal in a laundry bag concealed within the spare tire compartment of his vehicle.
The incident occurred on October 20, 2023, when authorities at Tuas checkpoint discovered the hidden puppy during a routine inspection. He pleaded guilty to three charges, including importing an animal without a license and failing to provide proper care.
Investigations revealed that him, who owns a transport company in Malaysia, was facing financial difficulties. He admitted to smuggling animals into Singapore after being approached by an unidentified person known as "Mr Dog." He was paid SGD 60 per trip, regardless of the number of animals smuggled.
Authorities emphasized the seriousness of animal smuggling and the need for proper care and licensing when transporting live animals.
