On Friday (May 24), a 43-year-old NRI woman was charged for allegedly "stabbing" a six-year-old boy multiple times with a pen at a childcare centre, leaving marks on his face and scalp.

She faces one count of ill-treating a child under her care, as defined by the Children and Young Persons Act.

A wide-ranging gag order has been issued by the court, prohibiting the publication of the identities of both the victim and the accused, as well as the location of the incident.

According to the charge sheet, the woman is an Indian national and a permanent resident of Singapore.

The incident occurred around 3pm on November 16, 2022, when the boy was in her care at the childcare centre. She allegedly stabbed his head multiple times with a pen.

As a result, the boy suffered a 1cm-long abrasion on his scalp, a 2cm-long abrasion above his eyebrow, and a 1.5cm-long abrasion on his scalp.

The woman has indicated her intention to plead guilty.

She was granted bail of S$15,000, and her case is scheduled to be heard again in June.

If found guilty of ill-treating a child under her care, she could face up to eight years in prison, a fine of up to S$8,000
