The International Chamber of Commerce United Kingdom (ICC UK) has announced the appointment of Lord Karan Bilimoria CBE, DL as its new Chair, effective 1 January 2025. Lord Bilimoria, who has been a Board member since 2022, brings extensive expertise in international business, trade, and parliamentary affairs to the role.
His appointment comes at a critical juncture for the UK as it seeks to reshape its international trade strategy, boost economic growth, and attract investment. With global geopolitical tensions affecting major trade blocs, the UK has a unique opportunity to position itself as a mediator, fostering dialogue and crafting solutions across North, South, East, and West. The ICC, with its global reach and influence, is well-equipped to support these efforts across both government and industry.
Speaking on his new role, Lord Bilimoria expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm:
“I am deeply honoured to take on the role of Chair at this pivotal moment for the UK. Paul Drechsler has left a remarkable legacy, and I am committed to building on the strong foundation he has established. The ICC is uniquely positioned as a champion of pragmatic trade solutions, and I see significant opportunities to strengthen our relationships with key global economies, as well as with government leaders, including No.10, ministers, and regulators.”
Lord Bilimoria emphasized his priorities for the coming term, including active engagement with G7 and G20 trade agendas and aligning with the UK’s international trade and industrial strategies. He highlighted the new government’s focus on growth as a key opportunity for ICC to solidify its position as the leading advocate for global business and trade.
“I look forward to working with our members, partners, and international networks to advance this mission and deliver meaningful outcomes for UK businesses and the global economy,” he added.
With Lord Bilimoria’s leadership, ICC UK aims to further strengthen its role in shaping the global trade landscape and supporting the UK’s economic aspirations.
