On Aug. 13, around 3.30pm, Surajdeep Singh from Brampton, Ontario, Canada, 22, was killed in an unprovoked attack while on his way home from Gurdwara Queen Mary and Heathwood drives area.

The police found Surajdeep Singh an unconscious and transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

He was religious and near to God all the time. From work he used to stop gurdwara  for prayer and  used to come home the same way-shortcut root on foot.

According to the police, he got stabbed from back. Surajdeep Singh’s watch and cell phone were missing when he was found in bloody condition. A few black youth were  involved  and stabbed during a snatching incident. It is under investigation.

A black youth, 16-year-old,  who cannot be identified as per the terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, now faces a charge of second-degree murder.

Surajdeep Singh’s cousin, Chandandeep Singh who also lived with him, told media:

  • Surajdeep Singh was a gem of a person and would never fight with anyone.

  • He moved to Canada from Punjab, India three years ago.

  • He worked part-time at a factory and was planning on returning to Montreal to continue his studies in business, which was delayed due to the Corona virus.

  • Surajdeep Singh’s parents live in India. He was from Dharowali village, Batala, Gurdaspur, Punjab and came to Canada on a study visa, after 10+2 school. His father Kanwaljeet Singh is a patwari in Punjab and moved to Batala in Gurdaspur from Dharowali village.

Surajdeep is survived by his parents and a younger brother who also did 10+2.
