NRI Jaskirat Kaur, 33, has confessed to the manslaughter of her daughter, Shay Kang, 10 years old, who was found fatally injured earlier this year. Jaskirat Kaur’s plea, based on diminished responsibility, was accepted during a hearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Friday.
Kang Shay, a pupil at Brickhouse Primary School, was discovered with stab wounds to the chest at their home on Robin Close in Rowley Regis, West Midlands, on March 4. The Black Country Coroner’s Court later confirmed that her death resulted from these injuries.
Kaur, also known as Jasmine Kang, had been charged with murder but denied the accusation. Prosecutor Sally Howes KC confirmed that the manslaughter plea was acceptable to the Crown. Kaur was arrested after police found Shay's body at approximately 12:10 pm on the day of the incident.
Defence attorney Katherine Goddard KC stated that there were no disagreements about the case details. Kaur, who attended the hearing via video-link and wore a grey jumper, only confirmed her identity and that she could hear Judge Michael Chambers KC.
Judge Chambers has set a sentencing date for October 25, instructing that Kaur must appear in court for the proceedings.
