NRI Dr. Neha Gupta, Pediatrician Oklahoma, Accused of Killing Daughter, Faking Drowning

NRI Dr. Neha Gupta, 36, a pediatrician from Oklahoma City, has been arrested and charged with first‑degree murder in Miami‑Dade County, accused of smothering her 4‑year‑old daughter, Aria Talati, and staging her death as a drowning at a Florida vacation rental.

According to authorities, Gupta and her daughter traveled from Oklahoma to a shorter rental in El Portal on June 25. Early on June 27, Gupta called 911, claiming she found Aria submerged in the pool. However, an autopsy revealed no water in the lungs or stomach—dismiss Ing drowning—along with bruising and cuts around the mouth, consistent with smothering. Investigators determined the child had already died before being placed in the water.

Gupta, who shared custody amid a bitter divorce, was taken into custody in Oklahoma City on July 1 and is now jailed without bond while awaiting extradition.

Her attorney has called the arrest premature, stating Gupta cooperated fully with investigators and is a grieving mother.
