PANCHKULA: While
the district police is struggling to get the passport
number and other details of Kuldeep Singh, a Non Resident
Indian (NRI) who is accused in Ramanpreet murder case,
the former is cooling off his heals in Manila (Philippines),
bringing the entire investigation process to a halt.
Even as the day, date and the route of his escape could
not be known, confirming the development, district police
chief Balbir Singh on Wednesday informed that proceedings
to bring him back have been initiated. "
Although officially it is yet to be confirmed, Kuldeep
has joined his mother in Manila and she has conveyed
the same to his father, who is based in India,"
he said.
Notably, the incident dates back to June 10, when Ramanpreet,
a Barnala resident who was pursuing a crash course at
a Sector 17 institute in Chandigarh, was found murdered
on the roughtracks on Ghaggar riverbed in Sector 27.
A murder case was registered at Chandimandir station.
It was nearly ten days after the incident that the
victim was identified by her widowed mother, who came
to know about the incident through news reports and
enquiries made from paying guest accommodation in Sector
22.
Ramanpreet's refusal to marry Kuldeep is learnt to
have resulted in the incident. The two had been having
an affair since childhood and had even got engaged last
year.
But it was exactly a couple of days before their marriage
that Ramanpreet eloped with somebody else and Kuldeep
left for Manila, after marrying some other girl.
Explaining the sequence of events, police informed
that on June 2 Kuldeep came back to India. On June 9
when he had an altercation with his brother-in-law at
Barnala and followed Ramanpreet's mother who had come
down to Chandigarh to know about her well-being. Later
he allegedly committed the crime.
