NRI Shalini Singh, Mental Health Care Worker Confirmed Dead; Partner Charged with Murder in Canada

NRI Shalini Singh, a 40-year-old NRI and mental health care worker from Hamilton, has been confirmed dead months after going missing in December 2024.

Singh was last seen on December 2 and reported missing by her family on December 10. Following a detailed investigation, police discovered that her body had been disposed of through her apartment building’s garbage chute. Partial human remains found at a local landfill on May 21 were later confirmed to be Singh’s through DNA testing.

Her common-law partner, 42-year-old Jeffery Smith of Burlington, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and indignity to human remains. Smith appeared in court on Saturday.
The search at the landfill site continues and is expected to conclude by June 27. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward. The Indo-Canadian community has expressed deep grief over Singh’s tragic death.
