In January, Toronto Police introduced Project Dodger in response to a rise in violence and criminal activity connected to the tow truck industry. The initiative followed a violent 24-hour period in which three tow truck operators were shot.

Police data shows that last year there were 63 incidents involving firearm discharges or shootings linked to disputes within the towing sector, accounting for nearly 13 per cent of all shootings in the city.
