NRI Yuvraj Goyal was found dead by police outside his home on 164 Street and 10 Avenue on Friday morning, having been shot.

"He had just returned from the gym, following his daily routine, when he was shot as he stepped out of his car," said Bawandeep, Goyal's brother-in-law. "I still can't believe it happened. It's incredibly difficult... we are in shock. This loss is irreplaceable."

Bawandeep mentioned that Goyal had been on the phone with his mother, who lives in India, moments before he was shot.

"He had just spoken with his mom about a minute or 30 seconds before the shooting. He called her after leaving the gym. According to the phone records, he ended the call at 8:45 a.m., and the shooting happened at 8:46 a.m.," he said. "He stepped out of his car, said goodnight to his mom in India, and then he was shot."

Charu Singhla, Goyal's sister, said the family is at a loss to understand why he was killed, describing him as a gentle and pure soul.

"He was a pure soul, the perfect brother, the perfect son," she told Global News on Sunday. "I don't understand why... why did they kill an innocent person?"

Goyal worked at a car dealership in Surrey, where Singhla said he was excelling.

"He had big dreams and was in the process of fulfilling them. He was successful, very intelligent, and hardworking," she said.

Singhla added that the family had no indication he was involved in any organized crime.

The family first learned of Goyal's death when his friend and colleague went to check on him after he failed to show up for work.

Upon the friend's arrival, police had already taped off the area. The family later saw news reports about the shooting.

"Police called me; he might have listed my contact details at work," Singhla said. "As soon as we heard, we went to his house and saw the same scene. We waited for information, but none was released until later in the evening."

After obtaining the house keys from the police, Bawandeep and Singhla entered Goyal's home and made a heartbreaking discovery. They found several unopened toys and gifts, presumably intended for their children.

"It's love... it's affection. He knew being an uncle is not an easy job," Bawandeep said. "These gifts will now remain unopened forever."

According to B.C.'s homicide police unit, investigators are working to determine the motive behind the shooting, as Goyal had no prior police record.

Police announced that four suspects, who were arrested on the same day of the shooting, have been charged.

On Saturday, 23-year-old Manvir Basram of Surrey, 20-year-old Sahib Basra of Surrey, 23-year-old Harkirat Jhutty of Surrey, and 20-year-old Keilon Francois of Ontario were charged with first-degree murder.
